We recommend these high quality poker sites: Tao of Poker - Tao is a Chinese character that means, roughly, "Way", and who better than a self described degenerate to illuminate the way of poker? Pauly is the captain of the ship here, and he makes no bones about telling it like it is, warts and all. In a world where poker has been dusted off, topped and tailed and presented as a family sport, Pauly keeps his readers down with him at street level, presenting the world of poker with no apologies. Wil Wheaton's Blog - WWdN in Exile is the title of Wil Wheaton's personal corner of the net, and a very entertaining corner it turns out to be. Ever since CardSquad, for which Wil provided content, stopped posting new material WWdN has seen more poker posts. The fact is Wil is entertaining no matter what he writes about, and his poker posts are value added because he knows and loves the game so much. Check him out!
Las Vegas Vegas - Care for a little extra Vegas in your Las Vegas? This poker blog certainly delivers, with some of the freshest content coming out of Sin City, with up-close and candid photography from the blog editor, FlipChip. Dr. Pauly from Tao of Poker fame is a contributor, as well as PokerProf- it's his blog, after all. This is a definite "go to" blog to get the scoop on Vegas poker. As it says on the home page, "What happens in Vegas gets posted here."
Bad Blood on Poker- "Raising Poker and Schwarzenegger Impressions to the Next Level": that intro alone should get you to check out this blog. Bad Blood dives into his online and home game poker experiences in a casual detail that makes for an easy- and often entertaining- read. Many of the posts are thought provoking as Bad Blood struggles to deal with many of the haunting elements of poker, such as staying disciplined, dealing with "right play, wrong results", and chasing away Tilt Demons that follow bad experiences at the felt.
Lion Tales - If you want stories about life in Vegas that border on the surreal and are written from first hand experience, you need to read Lion Tales. Richard "Quiet Lion" Brodie - the author of the first Microsoft Word- has made a few televised final table appearances. In his blog you will find stories filled with characters such as Penn and Teller, a porn executive who was robbed at drug-point, and an 18 year old vampire whose wistful dreams included becoming a wild life photog and not going to Hawaii.
Outkicked- Outkicked is a blog that is infrequently updated, but interesting to read when it is. JW's posts are simple reflections on his "Travels through the low limit waters," discussing frustrated attempts at organizing friendly online tourneys and wondering if he should really be cheesed off by not winning small SNG's. Worth a read!
The Commish's Desk - Todd Commish's blog started out as observations on"A little poker, a little sports, a little politics, a little entertainment... Hell, it's my first blog" but grew in readership when other poker bloggers liked what they read and started to link up. Straight forward posts from The Commish are sprinkled with humor and the perspective of a player with more age and experience that the standard crop of Young Gun online poker players. He was also picked up to write for Up with Sports.
Mean Gene - Some poker bloggers post sporadically but are enjoyable to read, some post constantly but are rather dull, and then there are others like Mean Gene that post often and post quality. Gene Bromberg, who has had articles published showcasing his depth of knowledge in the poker world, produces posts that give you a window into his world, the world of "Pittsburgh's most decorated poker blogger." A definite keeper.
Pokeramma-rama - It's not just Pokerama, its Pokerama- RAMA, the blog by Irritable Male Syndrome. This Minnesota based blogger's blog is a good section-cut of the poker blog-a-sphere, posts filled with personal observations on life, the weather, finances and- naturally- poker. The litmus test here is, after you read a post, you ask yourself if you'd read another. Pokeramma-rama passes with flying colors.
Pokergrub - One of the "OG" poker bloggers, Grubby is part of the central clique of that community, one of a band of players and writers that often define what IS poker. In fact, Grubby and his blog were responsible for not only naming the worst starting hand in Texas Hold'em, but re-imagining it and launching a favorite online poker meme. "The Hammer" is the name given to 7-2 off suit, and today you may find yourself folding to a player who jams you out of a pot, then shows this hand and quickly types "HAMMER!!" into the chat. If so, you have Grubby to thank.
Riding the F Train – The man's name is F Train, and his blog is about poker- mostly. Many poker blogs are a little hard on the eyes, what with the writers more interested in spinning their craft than tweaking their blog, but Riding the F Train is simple, easy on the eyes, and fairly well put together. F Train's nice use of quotes and lots of links accent the writing and keep you up on the score of this poker player's poker playing.
Human Head Thinks Big – A poker-ish blog, Human Head has a lot to say about this, that and the other- and poker as well. With a lot of Real Life interspersed among the poker posts, Human Head shares his thoughts on and everything from Pigeon Street Brawls to The War.
Hella Holdem – Shelly is a poker player based out of Chicago who, it seems, posts about poker! Many poker blogs are a mix of personal anecdotes on everything from traffic to the job to what the writer had for dinner, but Shelly seems dedicated to focusing on her poker experiences with just a sprinkling of the other. You will enjoy tracking her up and down experiences in live and online poker at Hella Holdem.
U Wanna Bet? – Typically poker blogs mentioned here are frequently updated, which is not the case with U Wanna Bet? It is mentioned here, however, because it is frankly interesting to read. U posts a lot of screen shots of his games, displaying his prowess with the Hammer or various Coolers and mind-bending moments that often happen while playing online. Worth checking out at least once, and adding to your RSS list.
Wolves Can Shuffle Cards– Shifting through dozens of poker blogs it is always refreshing to find one that is updated on a regular basis, and this offering by the Poker Wolf is one such blog. Discussions (albeit one sided) run from the Catch 22 of building a poker bankroll online but not being able to withdraw it to poignant observations viewed through the eyes of his young daughter. Good poker stories + good writing = good blog.
Inside Poker - If you are looking for an online magazine that covers every aspect of poker…Ta Da! Inside Poker is an extremely well put together, professional online magazine full to the brim with quality photos, well written features and insightful glimpses into the lives of poker pros. Whether it is behind the scenes of the Deep Water Series of Poker II (it seems poker players don't scare easy), taking you into the Tank for a poker strategy session, or getting you up close with Jennifer Tilley, Inside Poker is your ticket…well, inside poker.
